I visited Meerendal Wine Estate many years ago, and have recently been on a mission to try all the estates on Durbanville Wine Valley route - and to be honest, I forgot about them...
We love red wine and since Meerendal is known for their Pinotage we opted for a wine tasting, we went for the premium which cost R80 and received 5 tastings (plus the free wine glass below). We were a tad bit sad that the Cabernet Sauvignon was not part of the tasting (as we really, really love a gorgeous Cab Sav) - it is only sold by bottle.
Overall the experience was good, our host was helpful and told us about how the wine was made, she even shared some history about the farm, how it came to be - what stood out to me was the fact that the winemaker and cellar master is a woman and have been making wine since 1998, that to me was so amazing and such an inspiration. The Tasting room was beautiful and so relaxing, we really enjoyed the space.
We opted for lunch at Carlucci's after the tasting, it was such a great decision, the food was pretty good, however, I will have to rate the service 7/10. it was good, but it could have been great. (the food made up for it). Iron Bae (my partner in crime and wine tasting) ordered this gorgeous burger and I had a whole pizza, which was absolutely gorgeous. I can admit that we are food snobs and really love good food, this definitely met our expectation of what we consider to be good food. We bought some sauces, jam and Lindt chocolate brownie which we enjoyed at home - I definitely recommend it!
In conclusion, we are giving the overall experience a 8/10 which means that its #simplydanniiapproved - Iron Bae and I am yet to try the Crown and Il Tesoro restuarant, I will keep you posted.
